Well, she's gonna hate us.

When we sent the cake to Luyana's orphanage, we were also able to send a letter. In that letter, we asked for the orphanage to describe her personality and this is what they said:

She is gentle and easy going.
She gets along well with other children.
She likes to play group activities with other children.

Aww, sweet girl, you are amazing. And remember when I asked for prayer that a friend in the adoption community would be able to meet Luyana and report back to us? Well, guess what?! She did! She emailed me this morning and said she asked the staff to describe her; they said:

She is a quiet girl and is afraid of strangers.

So, Luyana, I know you're afraid of strangers, so how about you go with these scary foreign-looking people you've never seen and live with them forever. Yikes.

First of all, these descriptions make me love her all the more. She will fit in perfectly with this family. I too am quiet, and well, afraid of strangers. (Just the other day I was checking out at Meijer and I said to myself, "Eye contact, Jodi, you need to make eye contact when the lady is asking you if you have any coupons or bottle slips...") If you're not from Michigan, that bottle slip remark may leave you feeling confused, just move along...It is just amazing that we can already see that God is placing the right child into our family. I'm right with you, girl, we can avoid strangers all day together.

So we have a new prayer request and that is that God will prepare her little heart for being handed off to complete strangers. We know that in the world of attachment, it is good and healthy for children to have stranger-anxiety. It means she's attached to someone and will, therefore, most likely attach to us. And while it is a day we are anticipating and longing for, it will be one of the hardest days of her life.

And still no LOA and starting tomorrow, the office that issues this will go on holiday until next week. So we either get it tomorrow or wait until next week to see what happens. The more we learn about our sweet girl the harder and harder it is to wait. Keep praying, we need it! Thank you!

  1. Allow me to encourage you. We got several reports on our girl before "gotcha day" and every single one would re-tell how terrified of strangers she is. Also, one included she would hide under tables, chairs or behind her foster parents. Then when we went to meet her and were talking to her staffers that brought her (we had a private gotcha day in our hotel lobby) they too reiterated how scared of strangers she was.
Well, after a few mins of her being scared, I picked her. She cried only 2 seconds and then for the next 7 days wouldn't let me or my husband put her down. :0) It was beautiful. Your girl will be fine too!!! :0)
